Strangely started when I was probably around 14 in fact on one evening after I had just turned 14 when I decided to make myself some plaid bondage trousers based on the simple pyjama pants I was wearing at the time. I made my first pattern by sketching out the contours of my pyjama bottoms using a newspaper my father had just finished reading & a big red marker pen. They looked good & so good in fact I wore them to a Clash gig a couple of weeks later. Shortly after I started taking orders for variations from other teenage punks as well as adults I had met at gigs.

At 15 I started jumping the trains to London at weekends to get to Seditionaries. I would spend as long as I could in the shop before being thrown out & then would make sketches outside as I walked back down the Kings Road. I would then take orders from the other kids at school who had seen my hand-drawn catalogue posters on the walls around the school. I would aim to turn everything around in a week. I continued doing this until I was around 20 although by then I had been designing for a couple of shops, initially PX style blitz ensembles & then later over-sized style work-wear in heavy denim & corduroy with matching hats in a Haysi Fantayzee/Buffalo style.

After moving to London I was involved with numerous designers & brands either in production &/or design as well as sampling & catwalk one-offs. I worked with Red or Dead & Acupuncture (Phil & Barnsley), Duffer of St George, Boy, John Richmond (Destroy) & about 20 others before moving into my own store/brand at Hyper Hyper as Deviant Corporation.

After a long gap I returned, initially as English Eccentricity then Strangely English then just plain Strangely. Strangely: Purveyors of gentleman’s tat & tittle tattle, makers & fablers of the strange but deliciously damaged & crooked. Recently I have started reworking some of my old Deviant Corporation/Deviant Soho ideas in collaboration with other designers & creatives.

Currently made-to-measure & bespoke from our changing catalogue.
